The needle turns up in the haystack

A LONG-RUNNING family mystery was finally solved recently when Wendy Walton received a photo of Milltown-born Frank Franklin, killed at Gallipoli. She is also pictured holding a cross she made for him and which was displayed at the Memorial Triangle in Portland on Anzac Day.

FRANK Franklin might have been just one of 8141 Australians killed at Gallipoli and his story might never have been told – but the Milltown native now lives on thanks to the persistence of a family who should have been his descendants.
