Vehicle kills endangered plover chick at Bridgewater beach

An eight-day-old endangered hooded plover chick was killed by a vehicle on Bridgewater beach on Saturday night. It was an only chick, after several failed attempts by the parents to breed at the spot.

BRIDGEWATER locals and bird lovers generally were shocked to learn on Sunday morning that a hooded plover chick, just one week old and an endangered species, had been killed overnight on Cape Bridgewater beach.
